how do you choose an egg donor?
How do you choose? Each country around the world has different rules and legislations so it's difficult to give generic tips.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you have a choice, these are my personal recommendations:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Budget for approx 3 cycles. Sometimes you need a few cycles to get there. Look around at different options that suit your budget.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. Consider travelling overseas there are some great clinics overseas (Europe & South Africa) that offer much more affordable options than perhaps your own country.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. Choose a donor that suits your unique circumstances, known, open, anonymous. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4. Whichever type of donor you choose it's important to be completely transparent with your future child about their donor conception origins. Tell from birth or as early as possible. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
5. Decide whether you choose a fresh or frozen cycle. Sometimes frozen options are more affordable and seem to have just as good success rates if not better than fresh. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
6. Choose a donor if possible between 20-30 years old.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
7. If you are choosing via an agency check how many times this person has cycled and success rates (live births)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
8. If you're going through donor profiles don't get too caught up in finding a match of how you look - either match to your husband’s colouring or your hair colour and eyes. Most important factor is age of donor, health screening and success rate of the donor that you're selecting.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
9. Try not to get too emotionally attached to a donor as sometimes they're not available or something happens. Have a top 3.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
10. Remember once your baby is in your arms you will love and bond with your child with all of your heart. This part of the journey will melt away. You carried this child. You are the mum.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
